The ninja must use the hip throw with caution in combat, as it is not as swift as the SWEEP THROW. You MUST ensure, if you are engaging two or more attackers, or if you are engaging more than one armed attacker, that one of them is not behind you as you execute this throw.
As a general rule, though strikes, throws and kicks must be learned as part of your training, a knife thrust or a bone-breaking strike with a yawara or mace weapon is better for taking out your opponent than unarmed strikes and throws.

Let's go over the execution of the hip throw once more. The hip throw is best applied by a shorter person against a taller one, and is best applied after a powerful attack has dazed or stunned the opponent. Place your hips below the opponent's hips...
Now using your hip as a fulcrum, move the opponent over your hip. The opponent's center of gravity must be balanced above your hip at this point...
Now fling the opponent on to the ground head-first...
CRUCIAL THINGS YOU SHOULD REMEMBER ABOUT USING THE HIP THROW
The hip throw is not a throw that can be applied directly in combat, unless your opponent suffers from a serious lapse of concentration, or is very careless. Normally, to apply the hip throw, you would need to strike the opponent a few times, sufficiently enough to momentarily stun them. You would then apply the hip throw to put the opponent on the ground, where you can use a finishing move to ensure that they stay out of action.
Study the video to learn how to use this throw. It is very important to remember that this throw can be best used by a shorter opponent against a taller one. When used by a taller opponent against a shorter one, the mechanics of the hip throw become clumsy and difficult to execute. The basis of the hip throw is to balance your opponent's body-weight on your hip. In other words, you do not really lift your opponent... you balance them on your hip, and toss them OVER your hip.
As with all throws, it is best if you practise this throw on a soft and yielding surface. If you practise with your friends, be very careful not to injure them. Look at how the master executes the throw in the video, and see how he avoids injury to the student. The person being thrown can reduce the force of the throw by slapping the mat hard.
