DETAILED TRAINING IN LEARNING TO USE
THE KAZE-MAWASHI GERI OR ROUNDHOUSE KICK TO THE KNEE

EXECUTING THE ROUNDHOUSE KICK, OR KAZE-MAWASHI GERI TO THE KNEE

Ninja Scroll Kanji Ninja Scroll Kanji

Like all Ninja Wind kicks, this roundhouse kick uses a whirling motion of the body to build up power, combined with a folding of the leg to utilize the powerful muscles of the thigh, and then culminates in an immensely powerful thrust into the target. The Mawashi Geri to the knee is a descending kick, which means that it also uses the force of gravity for additional power. This means that you must put your entire bodyweight behind the kick.

All these factors must be used TOGETHER as you execute this kicking technique. When this kick is delivered in this way, a ten-year-old child could break the knee of a full-grown man. This kick is taught as part of your ninjutsu training online, not only because it is a part of the ninjutsu syllabus, but also because it is an excellent self defense move to use against an attacker armed with a close range weapon, such as a knife, as the body tends to lean away from the opponent as you deliver the kick.

AN IMPORTANT POINT TO REMEMBER

It is important to remember that you must deliver the roundhouse kick or Mawashi Geri at a descending forty-five degree angle for best effect. Also, you must drive through the target, shattering the knee joint.

It is also possible to rise up slighly into the air as you deliver this kick, to put even more body weight behind the kick, but this needs to be done with great speed and control.

One crucial point to remember when using this or any other combat move, is never to strike just once. Strike repeatedly, again and again, until the opponent is visibly damaged. One blow may not cause enough damage to put the opponent down, but several blows in sequence, certainly can.

EFFECTS OF THE KAZE-MAWASHI GERI TO THE KNEE

If you strike at the front of the opponent's knee using this roundhouse kick, you will break the knee joint. If you strike at the side of the opponent's knee using this kick, you will dislocate the knee joint. The opponent will be disabled and in great pain. However, bear in mind that he will NOT be unconscious. He could still slash you with a knife, or grab your leg at an inopportune moment. This can be inconvenient if you are facing many opponents. If you are in such a situation, you should usually put the opponent down with one of the ground finishing moves that will be discussed a little later in your training.

...READINGS FROM THE SCROLLS...
Power Repeated

The master watched as his student trained against a flexible wooden representation of an attacker. The student attacked again and again, with powerful driving blows. For a while the master watched, and then he stepped forward and motioned to the student.

The student stopped his training and bowed.

"You train well, deshi," the master said, "It is good that you train to develop your power, to forge your body and mind into weapons. Yet do not rely completely upon the power you develop."

"A simple principle do I reveal to you, my student... In combat, always strike repeatedly. The single blow may miss the target, or be deflected, or be somehow nullified. No. You must strike again and again and again, until the opponent is destroyed. Once you set your foot upon the path to the foe's destruction, you must remorselessly walk that path until your enemy is destroyed."

"This means, deshi, that you must learn not only to strike with power, but to strike REPEATEDLY with power, and that you must train at lessening the INTERVAL between powerful blows."

"Train at this, ninja."
