The Foot Throw is a crucial defense to learn as it is designed to allow you to regain your feet if you happen to fall to the ground in combat.
It goes without saying that to trip and fall in combat is perhaps the most lethal thing that can happen to a warrior engaging two or more opponents - or even a single trained opponent. The Foot Throw sequence is designed to push the attackers back so that you can regain your feet.
I MUST emphasize here that you must regain your feet AS SOON AS POSSIBLE after you fall. If you have an opportunity to do so without using the Foot Throw sequence, then get to your feet without using the sequence. If a few kicks to the shins of the foremost attackers will clear the space for you to rise, WITHOUT using the throw, then you must rise to your feet without using the throw. Rise to your feet quickly, or die at the feet of your enemies. Do NOT fight on the ground against standing attackers.

The foot throw can be an extremely useful throw because it can be applied to defend yourself if you happen to fall to the ground in combat. While a Ninja trains carefully using various exercises, to always keep his or her feet, it can happen sometimes that you trip and fall. If you are surrounded by multiple opponents, this can well be lethal.
The key is to get to your feet as quickly as possible. If an opponent is too close for you to do this, simply turn your body and kick the opponent hard multiple times in the shin, trying your very best to break the opponent's shin. Beware of the other opponents as well. Remember that your aim is NOT to fight while on the ground, but to get to your feet as efficiently as possible so that you can take on your opponents more effectively. If you are facing just one or two opponents you might have an opportunity to use the foot throw.
APPLYING THE FOOT THROW
First you must repeatedly kick any opponent who approaches you when you are on the ground until you break an opponent's shin...
Once an opponent's shin is broken, hook one leg behind his ankle, as shown in the picture below.
Place the other foot on his knee and use the leverage to his injured shinbone to force the opponent to the ground. You MUST rise to your feet at the very first opportunity that offers itself, whether the throw is completed or not.
Look at the video to learn how to correctly apply this throw, and when you practise it with your friends, be gentle with each other, and do not injure each other.
