"When I am meditating, I find it difficult to hold an empty mind in the basic Gyokku ninja meditation. How do I deal with this?"
Greetings, honorable Deshi!
Regarding the meditations, these are simple meditations, and for this reason are difficult to do. This may seem like a strange statement, but actually it is not. The more advanced meditations are more complex, and because of this, the mind gets more engaged and interested, and finds them easier. One extremely effective meditation that we do is actually done while knife-fighting!
We will teach you everything in time. But for now, let me answer your immediate question...
If your mind wanders during the basic Gyokku ninja meditation, this is no cause for concern. It happens to all beginners. Do not let your mind or heart be troubled by this. Instead, if your mind simply 'wandered', just return to the meditation without troubling or concerning your mind at all. This is important. Do not trouble or concern yourself because your mind wandered - instead, just accept it peacefully.

If you find yourself being distracted during a meditation session by a major worry, then imagine (in your mind) a beautiful box on a shelf. Within your mind, look at your worry. Accept it, treasure it as part as yourself. Do not reject it or try to suppress it. Accept it, treasure it because it is part of your mind and heart. Then, in your mind, still treasuring it, place it in the beautiful box on the shelf, where you will be sure to find it after your meditation. Then do your meditation.
These techniques should help you, brother. Do not become depressed or worried if meditation is difficult at first. All things, exercises of the body and exercises of the mind, are a little difficult when one does them in the beginning. In time, as one continues to practice, all things become easy.
