...THE MAWASHI UCHI OR ROUNDHOUSE STRIKE TO THE TEMPLE...

EXECUTING THE MAWASHI UCHI

Ninja Scroll Kanji Ninja Scroll Kanji

The roundhouse or mawashi strike is applied to the temple. This is the slight depression in the bone of the side of the head just past the eye. There are several advantages to striking here.

Firstly, there is a nexus of nerves here that can overwhelm the brain with 'nerve noise'.

Secondly, the bone of the skull is thinnest at this point. Thus, with a powerful blow, you can send a concussion directly into the brain at this point. You can create a 'shockwave' with your blow, which will travel through the skull, and create a 'wave ripple' in the brain itself. This blow is not to be underestimated.

You must swing the fist around from behind you and step forward at the same time to put your body-weight behind the blow. We will be teaching you multiple power techniques later in your ninja training that you will then use to vastly increase the power of such a blow.

Please note that you should never be satisfied with striking just one mawashi, or any other strike. Rather, keep striking until the opponent is down. Only when your opponent is no longer able to function is he no threat to you - NEVER forget this, my students.
