THE STANCE IN COMBAT.

Stand with the head up and facing forward. The forehead should be smooth. Slightly narrow the eyes. The face must be perfectly composed, with the nose straight and the nostrils slightly flared.

The line of the neck must be straight. Let energy flow down from the hairline into the shoulders and down into your body.

Put strength into your lower legs.

This is the stance in combat. Make it your natural stance in everyday life. And make it LOOK natural.

THE GAZE IN COMBAT

In your gaze you should absorb your entire visual area without focusing on a single point. See everything, focus on nothing. Do not narrow the focus of your vision.

Imagine a tree. If you gaze upon the whole tree, you can see it all. If you focus on a single leaf, you cannot see the whole tree. Similarly, absorb all that is in your field of vision. Do not focus on a single point.

This is the gaze in combat. Make it your natural gaze in everyday life. And make it LOOK natural.

MOVEMENT IN COMBAT

Movement in combat is simple. You must walk naturally, but so well balanced that you can move easily in ANY direction, even backwards.

With each step, you should be able to attack with any limb - any hand or any foot - in ANY direction. Practice walking and suddenly attacking with different limbs in different directions.

You must practice this well.

Let the tips of your toes have a feeling of 'floating' as you walk, and walk firmly on the heels. It does not matter if you are moving fast or slowly, or whether your steps are long or short - you must always feel and look perfectly natural in your movements. Do NOT favor one side of your body - you should be able to face an enemy equally well with either side of your body forward. Move from a balanced attitude. Remember, when both feet are well grounded, it is always possible to deflect the attack of an enemy, or to pour killing power into the attack that destroys your foe. Let your steps in combat be natural - do not over-extend, and you will never be in danger of overbalancing or falling.

 

This is movement in combat. Make it your natural movement in everyday life. And make it LOOK natural.
