USES OF THE WALKING MEDITATION
The walking meditation is designed to allow one to use the complex and powerful advanced meditations of the ninja in any situation. As you learn, through the walking meditation, to control your mind even while moving the body, so in the different situations of life, you will be able to call upon different meditative powers and be able to apply them in action.
As you advance in rank as a ninja, powerful meditations will be taught to you – meditations that allow you a greater awareness, meditations that allow you to flow on the patterns of energy around you, meditations that even allow you to control the chemistry of your blood and the state of your mind and consciousness. All this will come in time… For now, you must do the walking meditation.
HOW TO DO THE WALKING MEDITATION
It is very easy to do. You can watch the video, and look at the text below to perfect your technique.
The initial walking meditations are done with an empty mind. As you advance in your training you will do complex meditations in this way. But for now, simply hold an empty mind. Do not try to drive away thoughts. If thoughts occur to you, accept them, set them aside respectfully, and continue your meditation.
You will walk in a fairly large area in a circle. In zen one only walks clockwise, but the ninja have no such rule. Walk as you wish.
You must breathe as in ‘ki meditation’, that is to say, breathe with the stomach, or ‘hara’, rather than with the chest.
Touch your tongue to the roof of your mouth. This opens energy channels through which the Ki can flow.
Breathe in through the nose, and breathe out through the mouth. Imagine the breath as light filling your being.
Walk one step with each breath.
You will hum as you breathe out, vibrating the roof of the mouth. This is important. The roof of the mouth is considered the ‘heavenly pool’ where the Ki collects. By vibrating this, you improve your connection with the cosmos, and your control over the Ki.
This is how one does the walking meditation.
