The basic method of dodge-advancing shown here is a part of the BASIC EXERCISES, and is used to attack an opponent who some distance away, and who is menacing you with a weapon or object that can be thrown. Please note that this method is best used by an expert, so, if you are a beginner, you are advised not to use it in a real life situation.
However, it is essential that you begin to train in these methods at an early stage in your training, and so the Dodge-Advance is included in these Basic Exercises. Your Dodge-Advance can be improved by training in FOOTWORK.

DODGE ADVANCING
USES OF THE DODGE-ADVANCE
This simple dodge-advance is useful if you wish to close the distance with an enemy who might throw some weapon at you. The aim is to not give your enemy an easy target to throw his weapon at, while closing the distance and disabling him. DO NOT USE ANY SORT OF WEAPON IN THIS EXERCISE IF YOU TRAIN WITH A PARTNER.
HOW TO DO THE DODGE-ADVANCE EXERCISE
It is very simple. Look at the video to learn the exercise, and consult the text below to add to your knowledge.
Your target should be at least fifty feet or about fifteen meters away. Run towards your target while simultaneously dodging from side to side to avoid a possible thrown weapon.

When you are in range of the target, use a simulated attack to 'disable' your foe.
You should do this exercise at least ten times.
