The crab walk is one of the BASIC EXERCISES. It is used to train tricep strength and flexibility in the shoulders - flexibility that can be used to escape from certain sorts of bonds if one is tied up. Another exercise that trains the flexibility of the shoulders to some extent is TIGER PAWS AIR, while the DRAGON COILS increase the flexibility of the spine.

The Walk of the Crab is a useful exercise in ninja training. Like many ninja exercises, it has multiple benefits. Firstly, it enhances the strength of the wrists and certain sections of the shoulder muscles not normally trained. But more importantly, it increases the flexibility of the shoulders, making the shoulders more resistant to shoulder locks, and also giving one an increased ability to escape from certain kinds of bonds if you are tied up.

HOW TO DO THE WALK OF THE CRAB

It is easy to do. Look at the video to learn the exercise, and consult the text below to add to your knowledge.

All you have to do is bend backwards at the knees until your body is resting on your hands and feet, but bent backwards, not forwards.

Then move forward by walking on the hands and the feet. Keep your body high in the air as you do this - do not let it sag.

You should do this exercise for a minimum of about thirty feet or nine meters, first one way and then the other way, that is to say, forwards and backwards.

Many people, when learning an art, struggle to 'do it right'.

This is a grave error in thought. One does not 'try to do' something. One merely does it, effortlessly.

Of course, the first time you do something, it will not be right. Do not trouble your mind about right or wrong.

Do it again.

And again.

And again.

Each time that you do it, do it to the utmost of your abilty.

Each time that you do it, your ability will improve.

Until one day, perhaps on the thousandth repetition... or the ten-thousandth...

...you will be perfect.

'Trying' brings the ninja nothing. 'Doing' accomplishes all.
