USES OF THE DRAGON STANCE

The Dragon Stance is used to train the balance while kicking. It is also a crucial exercise for training your control of your legs and feet while kicking. The Dragon Stance, like many ninja techniques, has its origins in China, but is now an integral part of the training of the Gyokku Ninja.

HOW TO DO THE DRAGON STANCE

The Dragon Stance is not easy for the beginner. However, with dedicated practice, it will become easy. Look at the video to learn the exercise, and consult the text below to add to your knowledge.

Stand on one leg and extend the other leg outwards as shown in the video.

You must be in perfect control all through the extension of the leg.

The foot should be aligned to deliver a blow with the heel, or alternatively, with the edge of the foot.

Extend the leg fully, and put then put it on the ground.

Now do this with the other leg.

Execute the movement a few times with each leg.

FOOT POSITIONS ASSOCIATED WITH THE DRAGON STANCE

You may use either of the foot positions shown below while doing the Dragon Stance... either foot position - or both - is equally acceptable, so you may go with whatever you are comfortable with.

The first foot position is the 'heel' position, in which you do the dragon stance as if kicking with your heel.

The second foot position is the 'edge of the foot' position, in which you do the dragon stance as if kicking with the edge of your foot.
