DEVELOPING A RAPPORT WITH THE COSMOS ITSELF
The Kuji Kiri - the 'nine hands' of mystical legend - are a system of hand-signs and complex meditations that lie at the root of the mental training of the Ninja. The basis of the Kuji Kiri is a merging of Taoist thought with extremely ancient wisdoms that originated in the foothills of the Himalayas millennia ago, when the world and its peoples differed greatly from the now.
The Kuji Kiri is, in its way, the accumulated knowledge and philosophy of hundreds of years - a knowledge of the nature of the universe, and the place of the individual in the vastness of the universal scheme; a very different way of perceiving reality.
Thus, the core of the Kuji Kiri as practiced by the ninja is augmented perception. The knowledge and philosophy embodied in the Kuji Kiri, along with its meditations and hand signs, together allow one to look beyond the superficial, to see the essential harmony that underlies the cosmos, and to act with the flow of that harmony. Thus one becomes invincible, for that which flows with a cosmos needs no other force. Finally, the practice of the Kuji Kiri allows one insight, allowing one to take exactly the right action at the right time, which the uninitiated are known to call... wisdom.
Yet this development of the mind and the perceptions through meditation is but one aspect of the ninja.
